Annual Meeting

Please join us for Paws and Claws Humane Society’s Annual Meeting being held virtually on November 18 at 5:45 p.m.

This is your opportunity to meet the current board members and vote on two new candidates. You will hear updates about our animals and our fiscal status. We invite you to share your thoughts as we present our future plans for the shelter to help with storage, growth, and community involvement. COVID-19 has changed how we’ve had to operate and during this time we’ve had to overcome many new challenges. We would like to share with you how we are keeping our employees, volunteers, and community safe now and in the future.

Since we opened the new shelter in 2013, we’ve seen incredible growth in adoptions and fundraising. Our board and some of our key volunteers reviewed the importance of our fundraisers as well as the safety of our staff and volunteers. We currently rely on our upstairs at the shelter as a storage area for our fundraising and shelter needs. As we have grown, the feasibility of continuing to rely on that area becomes less manageable due to safety and space concerns. The two flights of stairs have become more onerous as volunteers and staff have to haul heavy items up and down for each fundraising event.

The Board looked at potential options of storage units and building costs of a new storage space on the shelter’s property. Safety of our staff and volunteers is our main priority. Looking at the future of the shelter and the continued ability to have these large events, the Board decided to build a new storage space. This was felt to be the best way to make events safer and fundraising and shelter materials easily accessible. We plan to use this space to store additional cat/dog materials as staff already run into space issues in the main shelter area. This will provide a safer environment for the staff and our volunteers when hauling event supplies and handling day-to-day activities. The building of this storage space is scheduled to start as soon as possible.

The Board would love to hear from its members and the community on future planning of the shelter. When the shelter was built, it was built in mind of have a community room added on the side of the shelter. This community room would allow a space for orientation for new volunteers, pet introductions, tours, small event space and additional storage for staff and the animals. The Board requests your input, and we are open to your feedback on this potential expansion. We would love to hear from you and how you feel about adding a community room to our shelter would be a benefit for all who visit Paws and Claws Humane Society.
